Deirdre Ni Fhloinn

Deirdre has also recently been appointed spokesperson for housing for the party, is a practising barrister and Green Party councillor for Glencullen/Sandyford. Elected for the first time in May 2019, Deirdre has recently completed a PhD on legal remedies for housing defects. She has worked with residents in her area (and nationally) to seek long-term solutions for home owners dealing with defects.  

Deirdre has co-authored the Green Party Motion on Building Standards and Consumer Protection in 2016, and made a substantial contribution to the ‘Safe as Houses’ report of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Housing, Planning and Local Government in 2018.

Legal Remedies for Defective Housing

Deirdre has extensive knowledge in housing and has researched this area, prior to being elected in May 2019. In this video, Deirdre explains the tort of negligence, economic loss and why the law applies differently to builders and professionals.

What I stand for

I’ve been an advocate for quality housing for a number of years, and I worked with Catherine Martin TD on a Motion on Building Standards and Consumer Protection that was passed in the Dáil in July 2017 with cross-party support.
